READING TAX KEY NUMBERS

Property in the State of Hawaii is identified by TaxKey number. First the islands areÊdivided into Divisions.Ê The island of HawaiiÊis Division 3 (Oahu is # 1). the next number is theÊZone,Êsimilar to counties on the mainland (but with no governing bodies) . There are 9 Zones on each island. The next number is theÊSection, eachÊZone has 9 Sections. By looking at the TMK number of a listing, the finding theÊZone on the Map and then theÊSectionÊnumber within the Zone, you can tell the approximate location ofÊthe property in question. ÊThe next number is the Plat, each Section is broken up into a varying numbers ofÊPlats which appearÊon 11"X17" map pages inÊseveral huge volumes of Plat Map books. The next number is the individual Parcel number. Each Plat has a varying number ofÊParcels in it.ÊÊString all the numbers together andÊyou have aÊunique identification number for each parcel of property on the Island.ÊÊGive me that "TMK" number, and a Plat Map book, and I can find any parcel of property in Hawaii! Condominiums have one additional number called the CPR# to identify each of the many condo units on a single Parcel of property.
