Property in the State of Hawaii is identified by TMK (Tax Map Key) number. Every piece of property on each Hawaiian Island has an individual TMK (also called Taxkey) number. First all the Hawaiian Islands are divided into Divisions. The island of Hawaii is Division 3 (Oahu is Division 1). The next number is the Zone, similar to counties on the mainland, but with no governing bodies. There are 9 Zones on each Hawaiian Island. The next number is the Section, each Zone has 9 Sections. The next number is the Plat, each Section is broken up into a varying numbers of Plats which now appear as individual map pages at the County web site. To view the Plat Map for an individual listing visit http://www.hawaiipropertytax.com/ . The next number is the individual Parcel number. Each Plat has a varying number of Parcels in it. The Parcel Number on the Plat Map is the double underlined number, not the number in a circle. String all the numbers together and you have a unique identification number for each parcel of property on each Island in the State of Hawaii.
